Am I worrying for nothing?

My dad is in the hospital with a widespread infection and pneumonia he has been on life support for 9 days. I was using his tray in his hospital room today and I noticed dried blood on the side of it. As soon as I noticed it I washed my hands throughly but I am not sure whether or not I touched it earlier in the day. Can I get the same infection as him? The nurse said it was really dried so it had been there for awhile and I have nothing to worry about.
