Why can't they make an optical microscope with gl lenses and mirrors that can see an atom?

Great question. It's because particles are often too large to interact with individual atoms. In a lab where you isolated the atom using a trap, you're able to gather numerical pictures. But an optical image would require precise knowledge of the whereabouts of the atom. That's a violation of Uncertainty.
